Martin J12-16GT $1200+shipping
2004
I bought my Martin J12-16GT 12 string acoustic guitar in November 2006. According to the serial number look-up on the Martin website, it was built in 2004.
The J means it's a jumbo body style. In reality, this guitar is not appreciably bigger than a dreadnaught guitar. The 12 indicates that it is a twelve string. The 16 is the ornamentation series and the GT tells you that it has a gloss top.
The top is solid sitka spruce with a gloss finish and the back and sides are solid genuine mahogany with a semi-gloss finish. As with all Martin guitars, the tone is superb, the action great and the guitar is just plain fun to play.
By Martin standards, this is a fairly inexpensive 12-string guitar. A good friend of mine who is a very accomplished guitarist played it and when he found out the price, called it a "best buy"!
