Here's what Dana says about Madagascar: "Madagascar rosewood will probably get you closest to the sound of Brazilian, and at a much lower price. Madagascar has much of the same rich overtone range as Brazilian, as well as a slightly "reverby" quality. It's a little heavier than Brazilian, so I have to be careful about selecting the right top and the right neck in order to keep the weight down and not adversely effect its response characteristics." Since Dana himself still picks every top, back and side for each guitar this isn't a problem with his builds.
